How does it work?

The health of your hair, skin, and nails depends on three proteins: collagen, elastin, and keratin. As we get older, these proteins become more difficult to produce, and are easily damaged by environmental and lifestyle factors. BioSil®'s patented ch-OSA® complex activates the production of new proteins, and helps protect what you already have.†

Collagen

Collagen is a strong, flexible protein that makes up 75% of skin, but as we age it diminishes at a rate of 1% a year. Smooth, healthy skin contains a finely-woven matrix of collagen proteins, and increased collagen noticeably reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Elastin

Elastin is the stretchy, versatile protein that allows your skin, blood vessels, and joints to move and recoil without damage. Elastin is what makes skin look tight, youthful and firm, and low levels are correlated with rigid, sagging skin.

Keratin

Keratin is the protein that makes up 97% of your hair and nails. When BioSil® increases your collagen levels, your hair roots and nailbeds are able to produce more keratin as a result, making stronger, thicker, healthier nails and hair.†

    Is BioSil® FDA-approved?

BioSil® was introduced for sale in the USA in 1994 and meets or exceeds all FDA requirements for dietary supplements. The FDA inspects our manufacturing facility in Belgium, and also inspects and approves BioSil® products for sale upon their arrival in the USA. The FDA reviews all of our claims substantiations, ingredients and safety practices prior to approving our products.

In Europe, the European Food Safety Authority, considered by many to be one of the most stringent review panels in the world, has reviewed and approved ch-OSA®. Their written opinion deeming ch-OSA® safe and bioavailable can be found online here.

In Canada, Health Canada's rigorous new regulatory program has granted BioSil® products Natural Product Numbers after evaluating our scientific support, and confirming safety and claims substantiation (BioSil® Capsules: NPN 80023605; BioSil® Liquid Drops: NPN 800005878.)

Is it okay to take BioSil® with a collagen powder/product?

Yes, it's fine to take BioSil® alongside collagen and/or collagen peptide supplements. These products work very differently from one another, but are potentially complementary.

BioSil® contains choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid, a uniquely effective complex clinically proven to activate collagen production and protect existing collagen levels. BioSil® works primarily by activating and supporting the enzymes your body naturally uses to make collagen.

Collagen supplements, on the other hand, do not activate these enzymes. However, they may be a source of the amino acids that are used as raw material for new collagen. As well, collagen peptides might be absorbed intact into cells, and might somehow signal the body to try to make new collagen. But in both cases, a specific series of enzymes must be activated to build new collagen. Collagen and collagen peptides do not activate these enzymes, BioSil® does.

Can I take BioSil® with other supplements?

Yes. There are no known contraindications between BioSil® and any other supplements.

Can I take BioSil® with prescription drugs?

There are no known contraindications between BioSil® and any prescription medication. As a precaution, we do suggest that you take BioSil® at least one hour before or after these or any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.

Does BioSil® have any side effects?

BioSil® is generally very well-tolerated. No side effects have been reported in clinical studies using BioSil®. Since 1994, a few of our customers have reported reactions which suggest they are extremely sensitive to choline (the essential B vitamin-like nutrient that stabilizes the orthosilicic acid in ch-OSA®). Common signs of too much choline can include symptoms like GI distress (i.e. constipation, nausea, and/or diarrhea), accelerated heart rate (including heart palpitations), and nervousness.

According to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 90% of Americans don’t get enough choline in their diet. The average American women eats 260 mg of choline per day (men eat roughly 400 mg, on average). The recommended daily dose of BioSil® (two capsules or ten drops) adds 200 mg, for a total of 460 or 600 mg of choline per day, by gender. This is just slightly above the adequate intake recommended by the Food and Nutrition Board (425 mg for women, 550 mg for men) and is usually a very good dose. This is well below the upper tolerable limit for choline, which is 3500 mg per day for both women and men.

Most people benefit from the choline in BioSil®. However, very rarely, some can be extremely sensitive to it. In rare cases where choline sensitivity is a problem, taking BioSil® with food can help soothe the symptoms. Also, lowering the dose is often effective.

Is it safe to take BioSil® on an ongoing basis?

Yes. After more than 25 years and $20 million invested in research & development, studies have shown that there are no safety concerns for BioSil® when taken as directed.

BioSil® is a complex that contains two nutrients (both standardly found in food) that are required by the body: choline and orthosilicic acid. Because we require orthosilicic acid in order to produce collagen, taking an OSA supplement daily is prudent.

Should I take a collagen supplement with BioSil®?

No, it is not necessary to take a collagen supplement while taking BioSil®. However, BioSil® and collagen peptide supplements can be complementary if you're looking to add more protein into your diet.

BioSil®'s active ingredient, ch-OSA® is clinically proven to activate the production of collagen, elastin and keratin. It works primarily by activating and supporting enzymes your body naturally uses to make these proteins.

Meanwhile, collagen peptide supplements are a source of the amino acids used as raw material in the protein-building process. Therefore they can be useful in conjunction with BioSil®'s processes.

How many calories does BioSil® contain?

According to legal regulations, BioSil® capsules contains two calories each. Functionally, however, there are zero, because BioSil® capsules don’t contain digestible calories. The capsule shell and beadlets are made from plant cellulose (insoluble fiber), and ch-OSA® has no calories.

BioSil® liquid drops contain a tiny amount of vegetable glycerin/glycerol. Again, this ingredient is not digested, but legal regulations require us to list one calorie per five drops.

How do I take BioSil® when I am following a fasting program?

If you are following a daily intermittent fasting regiment, such as a 16/8 program, and you wish to take BioSil® with food, we suggest you take one dose with your first meal and the second dose with your last meal, regardless of the time between those meals.

Of course, BioSil®'s ch-OSA® complex is water soluble and can be taken with or without food. In clinical studies, participants take two doses daily, eight to sixteen hours apart. From these clinical trials, we know twice-a-day dosing is very effective. This is why we suggest taking BioSil® twice a day, when possible.

Alternatively, if you are unable to take BioSil® twice a day, it seems most people can (and many do) take both doses at once. Our customers still report results they are pleased with, in these cases.

You should be aware that a very small subset of people with extreme sensitivity to choline may notice side effects if they choose to take both doses at once, especially without food. If you take both doses at once on an empty stomach, monitor for the symptoms of choline sensitivity, such as: GI distress, accelerated heart rate, and nervousness.

Choline is an essential nutrient similar to B vitamins, and is very safe. Taking your BioSil® dose as recommended, or with food, will generally prevent these rare symptoms from occurring.

Can I mix my BioSil® drops into a caffeinated drink?

Yes, absolutely. Caffeine’s impact on micronutrient absorption and depletion is hot topic right now in many research communities. Based on the available data, including clinical studies where many participants took BioSil® in their caffeinated beverages, we don’t have any reason to believe that caffeine impacts BioSil®’s absorption or metabolism.

Can I mix my BioSil® liquid drops in any kind of beverage?

Of course. Our customers often tell us they add their five drops to all sorts of drinks: juice, protein shakes, lemon water. We've done stability studies to ensure that ch-OSA® is stable through pasteurization processes, as well as in hot beverages like coffee and tea. Take your BioSil® drops according to your taste.

Should I take BioSil® with food?

Food intake has no impact on BioSil®'s effectiveness. Taking your capsule or drops with a meal is usually easier on sensitive stomachs.

What time of day should I take BioSil?

We suggest taking one capsule in the morning and one capsule in the evening (between eight and sixteen hours later). This is the same schedule observed by the participants in BioSil®'s clinical trials.

That said, as long as you're taking the optimal dose (one capsule or 5 drops, twice daily), the timing is up to you.

What happens if I skip BioSil® for a day?

BioSil® increases the amount of collagen, elastin and keratin produced by your body. When you stop taking BioSil®, your cells will eventually return to the same collagen, elastin, and keratin production levels as before.

It often takes some time to notice the results when you start taking BioSil®, and some time to notice the consequences when you stop. After a period of consistent supplementation, skipping a dose is nothing to worry about. Your body's collagen generation will catch up within a few days of resuming your regular BioSil® routine.

Once I've started my BioSil® routine, how long should I continue it?

The human body produces collagen on an ongoing basis throughout our lifespan. Our skin, hair, and all of our tissues aren't built to last 100 years, but to be continually rejuvenated and replenished by the body's natural processes. In order to support these processes, which become less efficient with age, BioSil® supplementation can and should continue accordingly.

How often should I take BioSil®?

All BioSil® products are meant to be taken twice a day, in order to achieve the results that have been proven in clinical trials.

Will I get better results if I take higher amounts of BioSil® every day?

We do not have clinical evidence suggesting that larger dosages yield better results. We’re very confident you’ll get the desired results at these dosages.

Unless advised otherwise by a qualified health professional, we do not recommend taking more than 10 drops or two capsules of BioSil® per day.

Can I take both of my daily doses at once?

Because BioSil® is water-soluble, it’s most effective to split your doses up to keep your ch-OSA® levels consistently high throughout the day. That said, years of customer feedback have shown us that many people can and do take both doses at once without problems.

You should be aware that a very small subset of people with extreme sensitivity to choline may notice side effects if they choose to take both doses at once. If you take both doses at once, monitor for the symptoms of choline sensitivity, such as: GI distress, accelerated heart rate, and nervousness.

Choline is an essential nutrient similar to B vitamins, and is very safe. Taking your BioSil® dose as recommended, or with food, will generally prevent these rare symptoms from occurring.

    How do I take BioSil®?

BioSil® comes in three forms: liquid drops, regular capsules, and liquid capsules.

If you prefer BioSil® in liquid form, we recommend taking five drops in fresh water or juice twice each day, in order to see optimal hair, skin, and nail results. If your primary concern is bone health, you may take six drops twice daily.

If you prefer BioSil® in capsule form, take one capsule two times daily. You can take BioSil® with or without food, and with any other supplements.

    Does BioSil® contain GMO ingredients?

No, BioSil® does not contain any genetically modified organisms or ingredients.

Does BioSil® contain animal or animal-derived products?

No, BioSil® does not contain any ingredients derived from animal products. Vegans and vegetarians can take BioSil® without any concerns.

    Does BioSil® contain collagen?

No, BioSil® does not contain collagen. BioSil® is a vegan complex that helps grow and protect collagen.

Does BioSil® contain PEG (polyethylene glycol)?

No, BioSil® does not contain PEG (polyethylene glycol).

How long does a bottle of BioSil® last?

If you take 5 drops twice daily, as we recommend, your bottle of BioSil® liquid drops will last for either 30 days (0.5 fl. oz / 15ml bottle), or 60 days (1.0 fl. oz. / 30ml bottle).

BioSil® capsules will last 15 days (30 capsule bottle), 30 days (60 capsule bottle), or 60 days (120 capsule bottle) if you take one capsule in the morning and one in the evening.

BioSil® liquid capsules will last 30 days (60 capsule bottle.)

Should I store BioSil® in the refrigerator?

BioSil® doesn’t need to be refrigerated, even after opening. Of course you can keep it in there anyway, if you like.

What color should my BioSil® liquid drops be?

BioSil® is naturally a light shade of yellow. Often, this colouring is so delicate that it may look translucent inside the bottle. However, there is always some batch-to-batch variation in the color due to the raw materials, especially the choline. Color variation has no impact the safety, potency, or efficacy of BioSil®.

What does BioSil® smell and taste like?

BioSil® is 100% vegan, with no allergens or animal products, but we are the first to admit that the choline in ch-OSA® has a characteristic fishy odour. Rather than masking this with artificial scents or flavors, we've always opted to keep the ingredient list as short as possible.

    How big are BioSil® capsules?

BioSil®'s liquid capsules are quite little (size 3), significantly smaller than BioSil’s regular capsules (size 0EL).

Liquid capsules are the perfect option for people who have trouble swallowing larger capsules, but do not want to take liquid BioSil®.

Do BioSil® liquid drops absorb faster than BioSil® capsules?

The human body absorbs all three forms of BioSil® equally, and they are equally effective. This is because the active ingredient, ch-OSA®, and pharmacokinetic properties are identical in all three forms: liquid, capsule, or liquid capsule.

What is the difference between BioSil® liquid drops, BioSil® capsules and BioSil® liquid capsules? Is one better than the other?

BioSil® comes in three different forms, but each provide identical results. It's up to you: you might prefer the convenience of a capsule, or enjoy the ritual of adding the drops to fresh water with lemon.

ch-OSA® forms naturally as a liquid, as you can see in BioSil® liquid drops and BioSil® liquid capsules. BioSil® capsules also contain ch-OSA® liquid, but in micro-droplet form.

Can I trust these clinical trials?

Meaningful proof of BioSil®’s effects on skin, hair, nails, bones, and joints comes from randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human clinical trials published in top peer-reviewed medical journals—the highest standard for clinical testing.

There is a major difference between the phrases "clinically proven" and "clinically tested." Any product can be tested in a clinical setting, but only those products that show statistically significant results may use the phrase "clinically proven." BioSil® is clinically proven in double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials.

Your packaging says: "statistically significant." What does that mean?

When a scientist says a result is “significant,” the definition isn't up for interpretation. This word is only used when the change is real, not based on chance or luck.

In placebo-controlled trials, a "significant" difference between the results of the active group and the placebo group indicates that the substance being tested is definitely responsible. For example, in the BioSil® clinical trials, one "statistically significant" finding was a 30% reduction in the depth of fine lines and wrinkles.

Any product has seen real positive results in the lab will say that its results are “statistically significant.” If this phrase isn't used, the changes may well be negligible.

Your packaging says "clinically proven." What does that mean?

When advertisers claim that a product has been "clinically studied" it can be misleading. Just because a product has been studied doesn't mean the results were positive: they may have been inconclusive or even negative.

BioSil®'s clinical studies are subject to the gold standards of clinical science: double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials. This ensures significant, meaningful results on real timelines.

    Where can I buy BioSil®?

How is BioSil® different than products that contain collagen?

BioSil® is not made from collagen, it generates collagen. When you ingest collagen your body breaks it down and digests it as food. Your body views collagen supplements like any other protein-rich meal: meat, seafood, poultry. In this way, many collagen supplements aren't very different from drinking a protein shake.

BioSil®, by contrast, turns on your body’s collagen-producing cells. In your skin, these cells are called fibroblasts. In bone, they’re called osteoblasts. When your fibroblasts and osteoblasts begin to slow down with age, collagen production diminishes. BioSil® has been clinically proven to increase collagen formation by supporting these cells, and helping them operate at full capacity. What’s more, BioSil® protects the newly formed collagen, as well as your existing collagen, from damage.

How is BioSil® different than Biotin?

BioSil® is not the same as biotin. BioSil® and biotin are both involved in naturally activating enzymes in your body; however, BioSil® and biotin activate different enzymes and work differently and independently from one another.

Biotin is a B vitamin essential to metabolism, and it can aid in nail and hair health. One common proposed mechanism of action is related to its ability to activate an enzyme involved in forming the cortex of hair fibers and nail plates.

BioSil® does not contain biotin. It contains ch-OSA®, a uniquely effective complex that is clinically proven to activate multiple biological pathways that generate collagen, elastin and keratin. BioSil® works primarily by activating and supporting enzymes your body naturally uses to make these proteins. In addition, BioSil® helps protect collagen by neutralizing homocysteine, a metabolite that destroys collagen throughout the body. Emerging research also suggests that BioSil® may also help protect collagen from the stress hormone cortisol.

How is BioSil® different from other silica-based products?

BioSil® is a unique, clinically proven complex containing choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid, or ch-OSA®. Some of BioSil®’s benefits come from orthosilicic acid (bioavailable silicon), some are from choline (a B-vitamin-like essential nutrient), and some are from the complex as a whole.

The benefits of orthosilicic acid :

    • activating key enzymes required for collagen generation, such as ornithine aminotransferase, prolyl hydroxylases, lysyl hydroxylase;
    • performing other structural roles to strengthen collagen and keratin fibers.

    The benefits of choline:

    • neutralizing homocysteine to protect collagen and protect lysyl oxidase activity;
    • regulating the stress hormone cortisol;
    • regulating inflammation response.

The benefits of the ch-OSA® complex overall:

    • stabilizing OSA molecules and preventing them from reacting with each other, proteins, or other minerals;
    • allowing higher concentrations of OSA than otherwise possible;
    • assisting in transporting OSA into collagen-generating cells (the complex can enter collagen generating cells via the silicon pathway or the choline pathway both.)

ch-OSA® is transported and metabolized very differently than other silicon-containing compounds. Several gold standard, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials published in respected medical journals have proven ch-OSA®'s unique effectiveness for hair, skin, nails, bones, and joints. In other words, BioSil®’s proven benefits are unique, and can’t be extrapolated to other silicon-containing products.

Recently, a major mineral water company sponsored a bone study using about 80 mg/day of silicon (in the form of orthosilicic acid), which is found naturally in their water. Researchers terminated the trial after one year without significant results. Meanwhile, a one-year study in a similar population testing BioSil®'s ch-OSA® found a 15% increase of bone collagen production and an increase of bone mineral density at the hip, using only 6 mg/day of silicon (that is, 12 drops of BioSil® a day.)

This is in part because OSA molecules are highly reactive on their own. Without the stabilizing influence of choline, OSA reacts with proteins or other minerals in the blood, and the resulting complexes are generally useless to the body and are quickly be filtered out by the kidneys.

    Will BioSil® affect my hormones?

The stress hormone cortisol is the only hormone BioSil® influences. Emerging research suggests choline can be beneficial, as it helps modulate or regulate the body's production of cortisol.

Will BioSil® affect my iron levels?

No, BioSil® does not affect iron levels.

Will BioSil® affect my probiotic levels?

No, BioSil® does not affect probiotic levels.

    Does BioSil® have skin benefits?

BioSil® is clinically proven to help skin in four ways:

    • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles: BioSil® is clinically proven to smooth lines and wrinkles caused by age and environmental damage.
    • Tighter, more elastic skin: BioSil® activates the production of elastin as well as collagen in your skin.
    • Protects skin from "anti-collagens": BioSil® neutralizes hormones and amino acids known to actively destroy collagen and suppress its production.
    • Regenerates and rejuvenates skin: Your skin is in a constant state of repair and replenishment, but it needs to produce enough collagen to keep up with stress, sun, and age.

What are some specific ways BioSil® can help hair?

BioSil® is clinically proven to help hair in several ways:

    • Thicker hair: BioSil® is clinically proven to thicken each individual strand of hair, which results in more volume overall.
    • Stronger hair: Your hair's strength comes from elasticity, which helps it resist damage from aging, styling, and environmental factors.

[cta] Click to learn more about BioSil®'s effects on hair.

    Does BioSil® grow hair longer?

BioSil® can be very helpful in growing hair longer, because it is proven to thicken and strengthen hair. This results in healthier hair that is less prone to breakage, which in turn promotes longer hair growth.

Secondly, increasing collagen and elastin production in the skin and blood vessels improves microcirculation. This results in better nutrient delivery to the scalp, which generally results in healthier, faster growing hair.

Thirdly, BioSil® helps activate the enzyme known as ornithine aminotransferase. This enzyme produces l-proline, an amino acid that makes up about 6-9% of keratin, the protein making up about 97% of hair.

    Does BioSil® thicken hair?

Yes, BioSil® is clinically proven to thicken hair by 12.8%*. ch-OSA® increases the size of hair formation sites (dermal papilla), otherwise known as the hair root. A larger, healthier root grows thicker hair.

*After 36 weeks, versus the placebo group. Your results may be different.

Why am I responding so slowly to BioSil®?

There is significant variation in response time between people taking BioSil®. Age, diet, genetics, exercise habits, and other lifestyle factors will impact your response time.

For example, patients with higher levels of compounds known to damage collagen, or suppress collagen production—such as homocysteine, cortisol, sugar (glycation), advanced glycation end products, and free radicals—will often respond more slowly than others. As well, people with underlying diseases impacting collagen metabolism—such as hypothyroidism, anemia, low iron, iron metabolism issues, and/or autoimmune challenges—may take longer to notice results.

When should I expect results with BioSil®?

1 month: Faster growing nails are one of the first improvements people say they notice.

2 months: More voluminous, faster-growing, and lustrous hair is commonly reported in the second month.

3 months: Glowing, brighter, more luminous skin can happen within three months for some people, according to reviews.

3 months: BioSil® reduces joint discomfort, increases mobility and range of flexibility, and improves cartilage condition after three months, according to a clinical study.

4-5 months: BioSil® significantly improves wrinkles and fine lines, as well as skin elasticity in this timeframe, according to a clinical study.

4-6 months: BioSil® reduces nail brittleness after four months, and reduces vertical lines and roughness after six, according to a clinical study.

9 months: BioSil® strengthens, thickens, and elasticizes hair after nine months, according to a clinical study.

12 months: BioSil® increases bone collagen production, and improves bone density at the hip, according to a clinical study.

Can BioSil work for women after menopause?

Definitely. BioSil® is especially useful for women after menopause, when collagen and elastin levels often go through dramatic declines.

Can I skip BioSil for a day?
Does BioSil® work for men and women?

Yes. The biological processes Biosil® supports are identical in women and men. Biosil® generates and protects collagen, elastin, and keratin—it has absolutely no impact on sex hormones.

    Why should I use BioSil®?

BioSil® helps your body replenish collagen and elastin, resulting in more youthful-looking and smoother skin, thicker and healthier hair, beautiful and stronger nails, as well as stronger, healthier bones and joints.

    Who should take BioSil®?

BioSil® can be beneficial for everyone. Collagen production typically peaks around age 21, and levels decline an average of 1% per year thereafter, though degradation rates vary with genetics and lifestyle factors.

People usually observe the effects of collagen loss in their skin, hair and nails, and feel the changes in their bones and joints. BioSil® helps rejuvenate these collagen-dependant tissues at any age.

    Is BioSil Vegan/Vegetarian friendly?

Absolutely. BioSil® does not contain any animal-derived products whatsoever.

    How does BioSil work?

BioSil® activates your body's collagen-producing cells, while also helping to protect your existing collagen levels from degradation.

BioSil® does not contain foreign collagen from animal or plant products. Instead, it helps your body protect existing collagen, and activates the production of fresh collagen fiber.

    What ingredients are in BioSil?

BioSil®'s only active ingredient is ch-OSA®, a patented complex clinically proven to activate the biological pathways that generate collagen and elastin, as well as keratin.

ch-OSA® contains orthosilicic acid (the bioavailable form of silicon), which is stabilized with choline (a B-vitamin-like essential nutrient). Both components in the ch-OSA® complex have their own benefits, as well as unique benefits that only occur when they're paired together.

    Is BioSil a drug?

No, BioSil® is a dietary supplement.

    What is BioSil?

BioSil® is a dietary supplement containing choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid. ch-OSA® is a uniquely effective nutrient complex that is clinically proven to activate the biological pathways that generate three proteins: collagen, elastin and keratin.

BioSil® works primarily by activating and supporting the enzymes your body uses to make these proteins. Additionally, BioSil® helps protect collagen by neutralizing homocysteine, a metabolite that destroys collagen and elastin throughout the body and suppresses new collagen and elastin production.

    BioSil®'s results are clinically proven:

    • Strengthens and thickens and hair.
    • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles; tightens, regenerates, and rejuvenates skin.
    • Strengthens nails.
    • Increases bone density; reduces joint discomfort and stiffness.

Why is there choline in choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid?

BioSil® employs our patented choline-stabilization technology because years of research have proven choline to be the ideal stabilizer of orthosilicic acid (OSA). Not only does choline stabilize OSA, it also has several vital biological benefits:

    1. Choline is a precursor of phospholipids, which are essential in building cell membranes.
    2. Choline is involved in cell signalling (e.g., neurotransmitters like acetylcholine), liver health, and lipid metabolism.
    3. Choline protects collagen from homocysteine, which is known to degrade collagen. Choline converts homocysteine into methionine, a beneficial amino acid.

In the USA, federal regulations require that we state the “elemental” or “theoretically pure” amount of each nutrient and disclose the form of that nutrient. Each recommended dose of BioSil® contains 100 mg of elemental choline in the form of choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid.

    What are BioSIl Skin Benefits?

Yes, BioSil is clinically proven to have benefits for hair, nails, and skin! In a double-blind placebo clinical study, people taking BioSil saw a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles by 30% compared to the placebo group, and an increase in skin elasticity by 89%! How does BioSil help hair in 3 ways?
There are 3 ways that BioSil is able to help strengthen hair:

1/ ch-OSA increases the size of hair formation sites (dermal papilla). A larger dermal papilla creates thicker hair.

2/ by increasing collagen in the dermis around the dermal papilla and in blood vessels, ch-OSA can increase the blood flow to the hair, ensuring an abundant supply of growth-rich nutrients to the hair.

3/ ch-OSA stimulates the production and quality of keratin, the protein that makes up 97% of our hair.

BioSil hair claims are based on the Wicket et.al Hair study and the Barel et.al Skin/Hair/Nail study.

What is the difference between veg cap and liquid cap?
The BioSil Vegan Capsules and the BioSil Vegetarian Capules will produce the same results because the active complex and its pharmacokinetic properties in each are identical! The only difference between the BioSil Drops and BioSil Vegetarian Capsules or BioSil Vegan Liquid Capsules is the form they come in.

Fun fact: The Vegetarian Capsules are actually made of beadlets containing micro-droplets of the Biosil Drops! All of the BioSil products are vegan, and just as strong as the other :)!
How long does it take to see results?
The studies we base our marketing claims on ran for the following time periods:
    Skin: 20 weeks
    Nails: 20 weeks & 6 months
    Hair: 20 weeks, 6 months & 9 months
    Joints: 12 weeks
    Bones: 1 year

Generally, people will notice some improvement to their hair, skin, nails and joints within 3 months.

However, there is significant interpatient variability in response time.

Standard biochemical individuality factors such as age, diet, genetics, exercise habits and other lifestyle factors will impact response times. As an example, patients with higher levels of compounds known to damage collagen or suppress collagen production such as homocysteine, cortisol, sugar (glycation) and advanced glycation end products and free radicals will often take longer than others. Also, patients with underlying diseases impacting collagen metabolism such as hypothyroidism, anemia or other low iron or iron metabolism issues, and/or autoimmune challenges may take longer to notice results.

Is BioSil Safe for Minors/What is the are requirement to take BioSil

BioSil has not been studied in children. Although there is no evidence suggesting BioSil supplementation is a risk for children, because of the absence of factual information, BioSil shouldn't be given to children under the age of 7 unless advised by a qualified health care professional.

Why do you list the amount of silicon on the label, instead of the amount of ch-OSA®?

In the USA, federal regulations require that we state the “elemental” or “theoretically pure” amount of each mineral in our product, and also disclose the form of that mineral. Thus we say silicon and ch-OSA® on our label. Each recommended dose of BioSil® contains 5 mg of elemental silicon in the form of choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid.

The ch-OSA® complex has significant benefits over other forms of silicon because:

    1. BioSil®'s silicon is the most easily usable form for the body. Silicon in other forms must first be converted to OSA in order to be used. The conversion of other forms of silicon into OSA varies tremendously by person, and generally declines with age.
    2. BioSil®'s orthosilicic acid is stabilized with choline to prevent the OSA molecules from reacting with each other, or with other proteins or minerals in the body.
    3. BioSil®’s choline component helps transport OSA straight to collagen-generating cells. Without a “transport molecule” like choline, OSA must diffuse into collagen-generating cells—a much less efficient way to enter cells.
    4. BioSil®’s choline component neutralizes homocysteine, which degrades collagen and suppresses new collagen production.
    How does ch-OSA® work?

First, ch-OSA® triggers the production of new collagen, keratin, and elastin.

Many collagen supplements are made of ground livestock (hooves, hide, scales, bones, and other meat byproducts), but even the plant-based or protein peptide supplements rely on the idea that you can increase your collagen levels by eating enough of it. However, when you eat collagen your body treats it like any other protein: it breaks it down and digests it as food. Instead of eating foreign, non-human collagen, taking ch-OSA® activates your own cells to produce fresh collagen, elastin, and keratin.

Secondly, ch-OSA® also protects your existing collagen, keratin, and elastin from degradation.

The choline in ch-OSA® is proven to neutralize homocysteine and regulate cortisol, two "anti-collagens" which destroy existing collagen and suppress new production. In this way, ch-OSA® protects existing elasticity and strength in your hair, skin, nails and bones.

Where do the choline and silicon used in BioSil® come from?

The silicon atoms in BioSil® originate from sand (silicon dioxide). The orthosilicic acid naturally found in mineral water likewise comes from sand. We have methods to derive orthosilicic acid from other sources, such as rice hulls or horsetail, but prefer sand for its purity—it contains fewer potential contaminants than plant sources.

Our production process has three steps. First, we form single orthosilicic acid molecules (identical to those found in mineral water). Then we convert choline chloride free choline. Third, we combine the choline and orthosilicic acid into choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid complex.

The choline stabilizes the orthosilicic acid molecules by preventing them from reacting with each other, or with proteins or other minerals in the body. Equally importantly, choline also helps transport orthosilicic acid straight to the body' collagen-generating cells, as well as protecting collagen from homocysteine.

    What is ch-OSA?

ch-OSA® is a uniquely effective complex that activates the body's production of collagen, elastin, and keratin. It also has properties that protect existing collagen and elastin from damage. Clinical trials have found that taking ch-OSA® produces noticeable effects all over the body, including skin, hair, nails, joints, and bones.

ch-OSA® is a combination of two components:

    • orthosilicic acid (OSA): the biologically active form of silicon
    • choline (ch): an essential nutrient that neutralizes collagen-destroying homocysteine and helps regulate cortisol

When combined together as ch-OSA®, these two components stabilize each other for optimal absorption into collagen-producing cells.

Does choline provide any other health benefits?

We're so glad you asked. Yes, not only does choline stabilize OSA, it also has several vital health benefits.
