What’s A Sleep Mask And Why Should You Use One?

As we begin the new year focused on a healthy lifestyle, we’ve been talking a lot about the importance of getting enough shuteye.  As if health consequences weren’t enough to prompt you to tuck yourself in at a decent hour, lack of sleep can have a negative impact on your appearance, too. Nighttime is also an effective period to administer a solid skincare routine. When you reach REM sleep mode, your body works to regrow tissues, increase cell turnover, build bone and muscle, and strengthen your immune system. The combination of these actions helps make your skin more receptive to product. With that in mind, this is one of the reasons why overnight sleep masks have become increasingly popular. Here are some more reasons why you should get on the sleep mask bandwagon.

1. Since the product is left on for a longer period of time, it has more time to absorb and treat the skin on a deeper level.

2. Not only do they eliminate the hassle of waiting 20 minutes to rinse off product — or avoid mankind while chilling with a ghostly sheet mask — but they work their magic while you’re snoozing — talk about low-maintenance!

3. Sleep masks are more gentle since you’re not rubbing them off with washcloth. In addition, some have exfoliating benefits that are less harsh than traditional resurfacing creams or acids-based products.

TIPS:

Always apply product to clean, washed skin so that the active ingredients can penetrate.

Cover your entire face and neck with a generous layer of product. Gently massage it in, but not completely. Wait about ten minutes before hitting the sheets so you don’t get product on your pillow, thus decreasing the results.

Experiment with different formulas, but always do a patch test first.
